"What I Wish My Parents Had Known About..." Parent Workshop Series

Parenting can feel like navigating uncharted waters, and we know that every parent wishes for the tools and understanding to better support their child. That’s why Little Insights Psychology has created the “What I Wish My Parents Had Known About…” Parent Workshop Series—a space to explore the challenges of modern parenting with guidance from experienced psychologists.

These 1.5-hour workshops, available in-person or online, are designed to help parents and carers understand some of the most common concerns children and adolescents face today, like emotional regulation, screentime, and anxiety. With practical advice, evidence-based strategies, and a Q&A led by experienced psychologists, these sessions offer valuable insights in a supportive and judgment-free environment.

Workshops are intentionally kept small to encourage open discussion, giving you the chance to share your experiences and learn from others while walking away with tools to make parenting feel a little less daunting.

  • In-person & online options available

  • Small group sessions for deeper discussion

  • Led by experienced psychologists, with Q&A time included

Emotional Regulation Workshop

Emotional regulation is a term we hear often at Little Insights and something we know can mystify parents as to where to start in terms of supporting their child. If you are the parent or carer of a child struggling to navigate big feelings and the tricky behaviors that sometimes come with these, this workshop may be for you!

Developed by Dr Eimear Cleary, drawing on neuroscience research, evidence-based parenting approaches and clinical experience, this workshop centered on supporting emotional regulation aims to help you:

  • Uncover the true meaning of emotional regulation and debunk common myths

  • Explore the inner workings of your child's brain during emotional upheavals

  • Learn practical, evidence-based strategies to support your child and yourself during emotional storms

Making Sense of screentime

Allowing children and young people “screentime” is often a topic that can leave parents feeling judged, guilty or disempowered. It can be overwhelming to navigate how best to set boundaries around screens while also allowing children and young people to explore technology and learn digital skills.

In response to many parents asking for help around this topic and drawing on psychological research, evidence-based parenting approaches and clinical experience, this workshop aims to:

  • Debunk myths around screentime and how much is “too much” for your toddler, child or teen

  • Explore potential downsides and potential benefits to screentime, at different ages

  • Identify alternatives to screentime and how to find balance with off-screen/”real life” activities

  • Learn practical strategies to support a whole family approach to developing healthier & safer digital habits

Understanding & overcoming Anxiety

Anxiety and worries can manifest in many forms for children (physical complaints, tricky behaviours, trouble concentrating, impacted sleep… the list goes on!) and can really get in the way of them engaging with their peers & enjoying life the way we want them to.

Luckily, lots of psychological research has shown that parents changing their understanding and response to anxiety can be more effective at decreasing worries and increasing confidence than individual therapy. Our workshop, based on evidence-based research and clinical experience, aims to support you to:

  • • Better understand what anxiety is and spot the signs when it is showing up (in you and your child!)

    • Explore what helps shrink worries vs. what keeps them around longer

    • Learn practical strategies to increase your child’s confidence to tackle stressful situations & overcome their fears
